Things to Think About

While I was making my dinner this late afternoon, ...homemade spaghetti sauce, crusted bread with homemade bruschetta (w artichoke hearts)....and sauteed spinach w/ garlic.. I was listening to NPR. Listening to NPR is one of my favorite things to do while I'm making dinner or folding laundry.
(In the morning when I'm getting ready for my day or making breakfast I listen to Ryan Seacrest on 102.7 KISS FM. Sshhhhh.. Don't tell anyone.)
(Or if I'm feeling naughty 106.7 KROQ. Kevin and Bean crack me up.)

But in the late afternoon I'm much less frivolous and Pop Culture. I want to feed myself not only with good food but with unbiased news and good conversation.(with no yelling or screaming, or boob jobs and botox)

So what I heard today got my attention. It hit home for me. I know someone who I love dearly who spent part of their childhood hungry. His family was working, owned their own home, etc. It's a silent issue. People are starving and going hungry in this country and they're too proud and/or too full of shame to talk about it or get help. This person I knew used to steal food from the local grocery store to help fill his belly. He wanted to eat "cool" food and was embarrassed of his homey lunch which consisited off homemade whole wheat bread with homemade peanut butter. Nothing else. No fruit or veggies. And definitely not enought to get through the whole day including sport activities at night.

I worry sometimes what I'm going to feed my family at night. What cool, interesting, healthy food can I make? What would it be like to worry about how to feed my family.

Beautifully and well told story. And beautiful photos. Thanks NPR for not being just another tabloid and attention getting news outlet and giving me things to think about.

Invisible Work

Yesterday I did invisible work all day long. My kitchen counters are still cluttered and the carpet wasn't vacuumed and the toilets arent's clean but......the closets are! One of the best feelings ever. Cleanliness really is next to Godliness. (I only say that when I've cleaned..otherwise, forget about it.)
I found some old boxes of my Grandmother's patterns. I've found lots of patterns all over the house but these were different. They were her custom made patterns based off inspiration from Vogue magazine. And these were 1960s Vogue. She had torn out her favorite outfits from Vogue and made her own patterns. She had them all so organized w/ the Pict she had torn out, the pattern, and the swatches of fabric she had used. I found them to be all so beautiful.
I don't want to throw them away. So I took a Pict of them on my iPhone. I'll put them in a box, back in the closet and be pleasantly surprised next time I decide to do invisible work.

My New Crush

My new Crush is Jamie Oliver. What a cutie pie! And his new show, "Food Revolution" is so great. I finally have a show I want to watch with the kids and they want to watch with me. And to tell you the truth, after watching this show...they seem to eat their spinach a little easier too!

European Premiere of Kick Ass held at the Empire Cinema, Leicester Square

A Fab Friday

On Fridays I usually do Pilates with my friend Tayna. She has a reformer that she trains clients with at her house. Then afterwards, I train her. WE usually do more talking than training but it's been so wonderful getting to know her.

After that I took my good friend Melissa out to lunch for her bday. She cracks me up and I always look forward to seeing her. She is so cute! I met her in a play a few years ago and was so happy to reconnect with her last year.

After school my daughter Avery had two friends over. They come over a lot because both of their parents work. They are both wonderful kids and I'm so happy my daughter has made good friends.

At 530 we ran off to my son's baseball game. Watched Asher play awesome for his second game and he was awarded the game ball for most valuable player.

Then hubby home at 8pm in time to wisk Asher off to Boy Scout Winter Campout. At 10pm I put Avery to bed w/ her friend who decided to spend the night.

And that was my Fab Friday

this is a test

Hmm..my blog title. It's the only thing that comes to mind. I try to take care of my body because it's the only body I'm getting in this life. Take care of my face because I'm not getting another one anytime soon. So, I've decided I'm going to start taking care of my life a little bit better and start doing more things I want to do. Blogging is one of them. Waking up earlier is one too. Not sure how this blog is going to go. I'm not a great picture taker. Not a crafty person. Most blogs i read are full of beautiful picts and beautiful crafts and beautiful give-a-ways. I think I've come to the realization that my blog will be ok because it's the only one I have.
